The Hunchback of Notre Dame Long Beach Theatre reviews
Disappointing equipment, set-up, and performance
I was excited to see "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and Chan Marshall. Unfortunately, on 11/18, Chan seemed like an utter wreck. She was trembling, talking to herself more than usual, and couldn't hit a chord on her guitar. Her performance was painful to watch.
Her setlist was great, and her singing was as good as usual. Maybe having her band there would benefit her. She turned down requests because she didn't know how to play a lot of songs and felt really bad for it. The windfans at The Dise blowing her sheet music around didn't help.
Nico Turner, the opening performer, also disappointed. She seemed perplexed over tuning her guitar and struggled with her mic. She repeatedly restarted songs and had trouble with her audio-loop recorder. She would have benefited from assistance, as she appeared helpless. She walked off stage early and apologized to everyone. The wait between her and Chan was long.
A very bizarre evening, one that I hope can be replaced with a more positive experience. Perhaps both Chan and Nico had a bad experience before the show.
